Alberta is divided into many different areas that are called Municipal Area. Municipal Area is a a region which has its own different local government. The Municipal Areas in Alberta are Urban Local Government, Rural Local Government, First nations reserves, and Me`tis Settlement.
RuralIn Rural the Reeves take care of people living in their area for the Local Government.Rural Local Government has Municipal districts and counties.A Reeve is elected by the council.There are 3 Councillors depending on the size of the Municipal District. Councillors are elected by voters living in that district.

UrbanIn Urban the Mayors take care of people living in their area for the Local Government. Urban local governments has cities, towns, and villages. Mayors are elected by voters. There are 3 Councillors. Depending on the size of the city, a city is usually split into 7 Mayors for towns and 3 for villages.These Councillors are elected by voters living in the district.
