The Legislature building of Alberta is located in Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta.Legislative assemblies are the law-making branch of our province.In Alberta there are currently 83 MLAs. These MLAs are elected by citizens in their constituency. Constituencies are determined by the population, geography, and other factors.The party with the most elected MLAs in the provincial elections, they become the governing party of the province.After the election, the Premier chooses MLAs from their own party to serve as different Cabinet Ministers.Each of these Ministers handle different areas of responsibilities.These chosen Cabinet Ministers work with the Premier to make our province make important decisions, develop government policies, and develop a budget.Government departments serve us with services for citizens' needs.Our Province has civil servants who look after everyday running of the departments.
